2011: Creative Arts Theater presents A Christmas Carol: The Musical

Synopsis:
A Christmas Carol is the classic tail about the old miser, Ebenezer Scrooge. Scrooge pays his clerk Bob Cratchit only fifteen shillings a week, is rude to his nephew and refuses to take part in the Christmas spirit. Soon, the Ghosts of his former business partner (Jacob Marley), Christmas Past, Present and Future all pay visits to Scrooge. They teach him to value Christmas and to be a better person overall. After the ghosts leave, Scrooge is a changed man. He even sends a turkey anonymously to Cratchit’s family.

“The Importance of Being Earnest” is a comedy about two young gentlemen living in 1890′s England have taken to bending the truth in order to put some excitement into their lives. Jack Worthington has invented a brother, Earnest, whom he uses as an excuse to leave his dull country life behind to visit the ravishing Gwendolyn Fairfax in London. Algernon Moncrieff decided to take the name ‘Earnest’ when visiting Worthington’s young and beautiful ward, Cecily Cardew at the country manor. Things start to go awry when they end up together in country and their deceptions are discovered – threatening to spoil their romantic pursuits.

Among the group are the narrator – nerdy filmmaker Mark; his former lover, Maureen; Maureen’s public interest lawyer lesbian lover Joanne; Mark’s roommate HIV+ former drug addict, Roger; Roger’s lover the HIV+ drug addicted exotic dancer, Mimi; their former roommate HIV+ computer genius Tom Collins; Collins’ HIV+ drag queen street musician lover Angel; and Benjamin Coffin III a former member of the group who, after marrying a wealthy woman, has since become their landlord and the opposite of the group’s Bohemian values. ‘Seussical’ is based on the works of Dr. Seuss and weaves together his most famous tales and characters from at least fifteen of his books. The show follows the adventures of Horton, an elephant who one day hears voices coming from a speck of dust. He soon discovers that within this tiny speck exists the smallest planet in the universe! on this tiny planet live a tiny raceof creatures known as Whos. Although ridiculed by the other animals in the Jungle of Nool for believing insomething he cannot see, Horton stubbornly persists in his belief that the Whos exist.
